Barr trail head warning sign                                                                                                                                                   Pikes Peak is one of the most visited mountains in North America. The Barr trail is about 13 miles one way and goes up 7,900 vertical feet. There is an average of a 11% grade. Consider the weather and time of year. Even in the summer it can snow on the summit. We have had many guests not make it in the spring due to cold snowy weather.

Start early, it makes it easier to find parking near the trail head, which is limited, the lot has about 30 spaces and fills by 5 AM and the cost $10 for all day.

We recommend staying parked down here at the Avenue Hotel Bed and Breakfast and
riding the free summer shuttle up, the shuttle starts at 6 AM. The shuttle drops you just a couple blocks from the trail head at the Cog railway station.

Another reason to start early, the mid- morning sun will get hot on the partially shaded switch backs, it is cooler to start early, and you will be more likely avoid  afternoon storms. Have the proper gear and plenty of H2O!!  Enjoy the meadows and boulder fields as you hike to the top.

Barr camp is 6.5 miles and a great place for a break or plan to spend the night and
finish your hike the next morning, if you are planning on going to the summit.
Reservations are required at Barr camp for an overnight stay.
