About our Historic Inn
Nestled in the history of Manitou Springs is the Avenue Hotel Bed and Breakfast on Manitou Avenue. This Queen Ann-style Victorian inn, built in 1886, offers seven beautifully appointed guest rooms all featuring private baths, most with claw-foot tubs and showers. We, along with our staff, take pride in the service we provide and gracious hospitality extended to our guests and friends.
We have family heirlooms and a lifelong collection of antiques combined with updated decor that adds to the charm and distinction of the Avenue Hotel Bed and Breakfast. The three-story “meet you in the morning” staircase in the middle of the house defines the entry, which boasts a parlor on either side. The massive Manitou green-stone fireplace draws you to its warmth and the large bay window of the other parlor brings in the morning sun.
A delightful, fresh homemade hot breakfast is served each morning at 9:00. We serve breakfast in our spacious dining room or on the front porch in the summer. Breakfast is served for your pleasure and for a leisure morning. Our special juice blend, homemade muffins, fresh fruit, and a breakfast egg entree are prepared each morning by Gwenn with Jenny’s help. Freshly ground coffee from a local roaster, Colorado Coffee Merchants is brewed and served. A variety of premium teas are also available for your selection.
If you are headed out early for a day of sight seeing or catching a flight home, we offer a “CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST” that we can have ready as early as 6:30. You can take a few minutes to sit and have fresh fruit, homemade muffins, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and Gwenn’s homemade granola w. Or, we have our “GRAB and GO” breakfast that we bag up for you so you can take it and go. The to go breakfast will have fruit, muffin, yogurt, raw almonds, and homemade granola.
We do ask that you let us know the night before you need an early breakfast and at what time. We will be happy to provide it for you.
We work toward being eco-friendly and leaving a smaller carbon footprint. We recycle paper, plastic, and glass. We use our coffee grounds in our soil. We provide recycle bins in guest rooms. We use eco-friendly Melaleuca household cleaning products and laundry cleaning products. Melaleuca products are friendly for the environment, friendly for guests, and friendly for our cleaning staff. We provide our shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in refillable shower pumps, which we purchase local. The organic bath products are from local retailer Salus. By using refillable soap pumps we do not throw away hundreds of little plastic bottles a year. We also provide a water cooler where you can refill your water bottle or cups rather than throwing away water bottles after each use. We saved over 6000 bottles a year alone from the landfill just from our B&B. We also support other locally owned businesses by purchasing gifts, wines, beer & gift certificates for our guests here in Manitou Springs.
The Avenue Hotel is a great starting point for your adventure in Pikes Peak region, just 4 miles west of Colorado Springs. Located in the historic district of downtown Manitou Springs, restaurants, shops, and art galleries are just out our front door and down the street. Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods and Red Rocks parks, Cave of the Winds or the Pikes Peak Highway are within minutes. Visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Seven Falls, or the Air Force Academy. With hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, horseback riding, or golf, the area has fun for everyone.
Formerly Gray’s Avenue Hotel, the historic Avenue Hotel was built as a boarding house. It has served as an apartment building, a lodge, and private residence. In 1984, the Gray’s established Manitou Spring’s first bed and breakfast.
Innkeepers Gwenn and Randy, as well as the inn animals: Ollie the Scottie, Zoey the Westie, and the calico cat, Rena welcome all and look forward to hosting you as our guests and sharing our historic inn.
A wallpaper hanger for thirty three years, Gwenn has extensive expertise in interior remodeling. Along with her knowledge of construction and design, she has numerous resources and networks have been invaluable to the rejuvenation of the Avenue Hotel. Having worked alongside Colorado Springs’ most skilled builders and interior designers, she understands the demands of customer satisfaction and quality care. With this exciting new business endeavor, Gwenn hopes to incorporate her skills and refined knowledge of interior design and construction with her passion and interest in cooking, baking, and opening her home to guests. Owning her previous business for three decades has instilled a strong sense of integrity, consistent organization, ambitious work ethic, and basic accounting skills.
Randy Hodges’ roots are deep in the Colorado soil, born on a 4,000-acre homestead east of Pueblo, Colorado. His management and organizational skills grew with the years spent helping operate the family farm. Moving to the Colorado Springs area twenty two years ago, he became involved in the telecom industry leading him to B W Systems, 8 years ago. He is well respected in his industry as a systems engineer and estimator with past experience as the project manager. Dealing with potential customers and clientele, he understands how to build lasting relationships and continue a profitable small business. Not only does he possess reliable management skills, he has extensive knowledge in electrical systems and home repair that will be advantageous to the remodeling of the bed and breakfast. He looks forward to the new venture in the B&B with eager anticipation.
