“Inn the Kitchen Three” is a collection of recipes from participating Bed and Breakfasts of the Pikes Peak Area (BBPPA). Thirteen Inns contributed a combined total of 147 recipes providing a variety of different cuisines from German to Mexican breakfast to main meals. The cookbooks are sold in the individual bed and breakfasts as well as some of the local shops in Manitou Springs.
This is the first cookbook I, as an innkeeper, have organized and sent off for publication. I had to spend many hours proof reading each recipe from the different Bed and Breakfasts of the Pikes Peak Area. All the ingredients had to be in order as they appear in the recipe, all the ingredients have to be in the same format; no “water” is not capitalized nor is” eggs” or “salt” or” butter”.
Kraft Velveta is capitalized. The measurements must have all the same abbreviations. c.= cup, tsp.= teaspoons, lb.= pound. The recipe must state cooking time, temperature and how many guests it serves.
On this past Monday morning the cookbooks arrive at my historic Manitou Springs bed and breakfast. The FedEX man hauled 24 cases of cookbooks, each with 24 books from Manitou Avenue up all 35 steps to my front entry. Stack after stack of brown cardboard boxes staring at me. Of course, each Inn was to get a box of 20 cookbooks thus I had to then open 13 boxes and remove 4 books from each box. Now I have 24 cases of cookbooks, a collection of recipes from participating Bed & Breakfasts of the Pikes Peak Area, and a pile of 52 books without boxes. I then make 12 phone call, (I did not think I needed to call myself) asking each Innkeeper to please come ASAP an pick up their box of cookbooks as I looked out on the huge snowflakes dropping from the sky and sticking to the roads. The cookbooks of the BBPPA would not be vacating my entry any time soon.
I know you have done the math, hmmm, 20 cookbooks for 13 Inn does not equal 24 cases of 24 books, we have ordered 228 extra cookbooks for future sales. I am the keeper of the cookbooks, a collection of recipes from participating Bed & Breakfasts of the Pikes Peak Area, and now must find storage for 9 1/2 cases, 228 extra cookbooks.
